Medical situation

I’m only just starting to get everything back to normal after my medical issues (which started three months ago). I was put on medical leave for a month to try and heal up, and the situation still isn’t fully resolved (though I am better).

Even so, I need to put up some updates so here I am taking a late lunch break at work. I wish I had some video or even just a few pictures to go with it, but oh well.

Since we started giving Alex the tinctures, we’ve seen more happy visits than unhappy visits. Of course, it’s impossible to say for certain that it’s the tinctures causing this, as his home has reported that he’s generally been in a good mood lately. However, on a recent visit, things started off pretty rough. It wasn’t until about 30 minutes after the second eyedropper-full of tincture that Alex started to improve. And this improvement wasn’t just a “hmm, maybe he’s a little better” situation — it was dramatic. He went from desperate clinging / hitting to freely running around and playing, smiling, and using his hands to explore.

For those who may not know much about the severity of Alex’s situation (check out the videos), when he’s having a rough time, his hands are either being held (possibly restrained) or are hitting him. His SIB intensity on this visit was probably a 7 out of 10, but dropped to about a 2 after the tincture seemed to kick in.

In other news, we’ll be moving again. I’ve gotten a new job at another university which will get us at most 30 minutes from Alex, and possibly much closer. It’s essentially a voluntary demotion, but I get to keep my current salary, so it only affects my future maximum salary. I hate moving, and new jobs are always stressful, but I sure am looking forward to being in Alex’s neck of the woods again!
